Arkansas & Tennessee

Pine Bluff, AK – We spent two nights here, at the Pine Bluff Regional Park Campground. This is a hidden and quirky gem! The sites are huge and mostly available right on the river. It’s very birdy and close to the largest bayou in the world. It’s also supposed to be a fisherman’s paradise, but we didn’t wet a line on this trip. The sites have minimal upkeep and the host is a bit eccentric. But you aren’t on the road if you don’t get some of that. P.S. If you visit be sure to hit Underwater Seafood – the food is only surpassed by the service! Black owned and run exclusively by family and friends…we had a delightful time. Memphis, TN – We stayed two nights at the Graceland RV Park, because of course we did. Good park with friendly staff and decent amenities, with a large partially fenced area where the dogs could safely run off-leash. We are kicking ourselves for not videoing Harpo (aka Mr. Man, No Sir, Bubba) as it was his first time to be safely off leash and it was hilarious. He’s a pibble/bassett mix and his gait cannot keep up with his desire to go, go, go! Real talk – This was our second visit and we feel like we hit the best stuff the first time. The Civil Rights Museum is incredible and if you aren’t in tears when you end up in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s room in the Lorraine Motel at the end, then you ain’t got no heart. Graceland is so kitchie (sp) and we absolutely loved it.

Nashville, TN – Stayed four nights at the Nashville KOA Opryland. This is a great place to stay for a lot of reasons – Huge campground with a variety of amenities, including year-round pool and hot tub and tons of stuff for kids. We skipped the “new” Opryland nearby even though we heard it was a must see. Parking was…I shit you not…$37 for more than 20 minutes and it just turned us off. It’s a huge – and I mean huge – complex. If that is your jam, you should go. We hit East Nashville and loved the local scene there. Standouts were The Wash that had localvore popups. DO IT! We also enjoyed both the beer and food at Homegrown and Tailgate Brewing. The original Opryland is the Ryman Auditorium and was a true historic gem with the restoration keeping much of the original interior intact – cool 45 minute dealio if you love music. Just down the road is The Listening Room. DO IT! Curated local artists with 3 shows every day starting at 4 that is OFF the cray cray Broadway scene (which felt like a cross between drunken, country Disneyland with NYC crowds). Relaxing delight with genuine up and comers. Syl posing below with a wax figure Janis Joplin in the Nashville KOA lobby – from Port Arthur to Nashville to find, Port Arthur…
