It ain’t always rainbows, unicorns and pixie dust…

This wouldn’t be a real telling of events if we didn’t take a hot minute to talk about some of the realities of being on the road. After leaving Richmond, we planned on spending a bit of time relaxing in the Blue Ridge mountains and seeing an old friend who has built an incredible space (Heirloom Farms…seriously, you should check out her curated retreats). Our first stop was ‘meh’ and filled with Trumpers with flags and such, which isn’t that abnormal given that a lot of RV parks are outside metro areas. But, it definitely dimmed the view!

A few days before we left Austin, we found out that our sweet girl, The Amazing Dosha, has inoperable liver cancer. To know this dog is to absolutely love her gentle presence. Our vet loaded us up with medicine to treat flare ups of diarrhea and vomiting and reminded us that she doesn’t know that she is ill. And she doesn’t! Once we got her stable, she started gaining weight and even having some zoomies again. Unfortunately, she had a flare that we were able to stabilize. I’m sure you can imagine these health events happening in an RV…

Next up: We forgot to turn the water off before leaving for lunch and shopping and came home to find a waterfall pouring out of the coach and out of our storage cabinets underneath. It’s
awesome learning that a piece of toilet paper can cause the seal in the toilet to stay open, causing water to run until the tank fills up and overflows. Pic below is of most of our stuff drying in the sun. In the melee that followed with us rescuing our stuff…

…I tweaked the issues that I’m attempting to recover from with my back and that caused a flare of my pain disorder. In the spirit of transparency and authenticity, I’m in low to mid levels of pain every day and we just deal with it. I’m spending the year recovering from a stem cell treatment that has truly, truly helped. It just also means that this year will be one of ups and downs and a slow recovery. Both things are true and y’all know we don’t let this shit get us knocked down for long. Which means…
We just went to Baltimore to date her…and…I promptly got a terrible ear infection from my apparent allergy to The Pollening!!!! Oh, and one of our walls is falling down!

What did we do? Got frustrated periodically, but mostly just grabbed a book, cooked great food, watched creative humans loving their dogs and chilled the F out in the absolutely beautiful Spring in the NE.

P.S. If you haven’t read these two books by Percival Everett, James and The Trees , they’re well worth your time!!!

P.P.S. We did date Baltimore and see a bit o’ DC. More to come next time. Baltimore was the most controversial city we dated amongst our peeps (looking at you RJ & MG!). You’ll have to wait til next time to see if we swiped left or right.
