Welp, sometimes a crappy situation can turn into an amazing karma bomb. Punchline – we’ve found our city!!! We came to Pittsburgh to pause our journey so that I could get some much needed medical care and ended up with a new care team, with my new back doctor being one of the best in the country. And then, we just fell in love with the people, sense of community, proximity to museums, cultural events, music, diversity, walkability, nature, parks. Did I mention the people…cause they be kind as F. We’ve already had Jim’s mom come up for a visit!

Pittsburgh has 90 distinct neighborhoods, all with their own unique personalities, and the people who live in them are usually very proud and think their neighborhood is the best in the city. After exploring the city for a bit we decided that the best fit for us would be South Side, either the slopes or the flats. (The rightmost picture above is taken from the Slopes looking NNE across the Monongahela River). After looking at a few places we came across one that blew us away, and we immediately felt we were home. It is a condo in a converted Catholic church built in 1900. Our unit has five levels, including one of the bell towers! Inspections were all good and we close next month – we can’t wait to get moved in.

Anyway, our search has come to an end so we won’t be adding anything to this blog for a while. There were some other cities on our dating list that we are still going to visit (looking at you, Madison!) so we may pick this back up in the future. Until then, safe travels to all and holler if you get near Pittsburgh!
